York Art Association's Announces 2024 Gallery Schedule

YAA continues to showcase the great artistry of our members and our community through our gallery exhibitions. This year we are happy to announce two themed exhibitions surrounding the concepts of music and peace. We will wrap up the year with our most prestigious show - the 53rd Open Juried Exhibition.

Judges Invitational (Jan 21 - Mar 3)

We are pleased to invite some of our past judges to participate in a special invitational exhibition at the York Art Association. We would not be able to run our shows without the valuable service our judges provide. To show our appreciation, we are offering them an opportunity to showcase their work in our gallery. Artists, members and patrons of YAA are excited to see works of the top professionals in our region!

REGISTRATION: INVITE ONLY

Musical Impressions of Color (Mar 10 - Apr 21)

How often do we listen to music as we create our works of art? Music has been a source of inspiration for many famous artists including Kandinsky and Van Gogh. It is thought that Van Gogh could not learn to play an instrument due to the distractions of colors and images that would swirl around in his head while hearing a piece of music. Kandinsky was thought to have a condition call synesthesia, which allowed him to see red as a violin, a trumpet as yellow, blue as the sound of an organ.

How does music affect your personal art? What color do you associate with the music you hear? This exhibition will explore perception of music through color and it's unique influence on you as an artist.

Choose a piece of music, whatever inspires you to create and choose a dominant color, whatever you are drawn to. Your piece does not have to be monochromatic, the color needs to dominate the work. The title of the song, or composition and the color it inspired for your entry will be required when you register. Any musical inspiration will suffice!
